Acne is not just a problem of teenage skin. Many adults also struggle with blackheads, enlarged pores, excessive sebum production, inflammatory breakouts, and the aftermath of acne. For some, the issues appear mainly on the forehead, nose, and chin, while for others, on the cheeks, jawline, neck, or even the back.
Acne-prone skin typically does not require more aggressive care, but rather more meticulous and correctly chosen treatments.
At Zoja Beauty in Velenje, we do not treat problematic skin with a single universal protocol. First, we assess the current condition of the skin, and then, based on the type of acne, sebum quantity, sensitivity, skin barrier condition, and presence of scars, we select a combination of professional APIS Natural Cosmetics and modern cosmetic technologies.
What Actually Causes Acne?
The development of acne is usually linked to a combination of increased sebum production, retention of dead skin cells, and impurities in the sebaceous glands. Hormonal fluctuations, stress, inappropriate cosmetics, over-cleansing, a damaged skin barrier, certain medications, lifestyle, and genetic predisposition can also affect skin condition.
Acne can manifest as closed or open comedones, enlarged pores, papules, pustules, redness, post-acne marks, uneven texture, and atrophic scars. Therefore, in professional treatment, it’s not only a question of whether you have acne, but more importantly, what type of acne you have and in what condition your skin is today.
Step One: Skin Analysis Before Choosing a Treatment
Skin can be both oily and dehydrated, have a lot of sebum while also having a weakened protective barrier. During skin analysis, we assess oiliness, pores, comedones, active inflammation, sensitivity, hydration, skin barrier condition, post-acne marks, and scars.
Only then do we determine the treatment goal: deep cleansing, calming inflammation, restoring the skin barrier, or treating scars and texture. Therefore, the same treatment is not the best solution for everyone.

APIS Acne-Stop: Professional Care for Oily and Acne-Prone Skin
In the care of oily, combination, and acne-prone skin, we use professional products from APIS Natural Cosmetics, including the Acne-Stop line. It is designed for skin with increased sebum production, impurities, clogged pores, and a tendency to develop acne.
The goal of professional care is not to aggressively strip the face, but to cleanse pores, remove excess sebum and dead skin cells, support skin normalization, and simultaneously calm it. The protocol may include cleansing, toning, concentrates, masks, and products for instrumental procedures.
Cavitation or Ultrasonic Peeling for Acne-Prone Skin
For blackheads, excess sebum, and surface impurities, we can use an ultrasonic skin scrubber or cavitation peeling. Ultrasonic vibrations help remove dead skin cells, surface impurities, and excess sebum, leaving the skin cleaner and better prepared for further care.
This approach is particularly suitable when we want to reduce the feeling of a heavy, oily surface and cleanse pores without resorting to aggressive mechanical methods.
HydroFacial 7 in 1 and Problematic Skin
HydroFacial 7 in 1 allows for combining multiple steps: hydrodermabrasion or water-vacuum cleansing, an ultrasonic probe, skin scrubber, application of appropriately selected serums, LED therapy, and a cold head to finish the treatment.
For oily and comedonal skin, water-vacuum cleansing can thoroughly yet gently remove accumulated impurities. The vacuum power and the entire protocol are always adapted to the actual skin condition; severely inflamed skin is not suitable for aggressive vacuum treatment.

Ultrasound, Sonophoresis, and LED Light Therapy
Cleansing is just the first part of professional care. With an ultrasonic probe or sonophoresis, we can incorporate appropriately selected active professional preparations after properly preparing the skin. The treatment thus follows a logical sequence: analysis, cleansing, skin preparation, active treatment, calming, and protection.
In selected treatment protocols, we supplement with LED light therapy. The blue spectrum is used for problematic skin, while red is included in protocols for calming and regeneration. We consider LED therapy as part of the entire protocol, not as a standalone miracle solution.
Why Oily Skin Also Needs Calming and Restoration?
Oily skin can be damaged. Excessive use of acids, strong cleansing gels, alcohol-based toners, and peels can weaken the protective barrier. The skin then becomes irritated, dehydrated, and tight, while still producing sebum.
Therefore, professional acne care may include calming, hydration, and support for the skin barrier as needed. For increased oiliness and enlarged pores, the protocol may also include masks with white clay and zinc, which help absorb excess sebum and impurities.
Active Acne and Post-Acne Scars Are Not the Same Problem
Active inflammatory acne and post-acne scars require different approaches. For severely inflamed skin, we first stabilize the skin condition. Once active inflammation is no longer the main issue, we can more intensively address irregular texture, enlarged pores, post-acne changes, and scars.

GOLD RF Microneedles 2 in 1 for Post-Acne Scars
When active inflammation is no longer present and the skin is ready for more advanced regenerative treatment, GOLD RF Microneedles 2 in 1 may be an option. RF microneedling combines the microneedle principle and radiofrequency energy and is primarily used for uneven skin texture, more prominent pores, and certain types of atrophic post-acne scars.
RF microneedling is not intended for cleansing active acne. We do not perform it over actively inflamed acne areas simply because a client has acne. Before the procedure, we always assess whether it is the right time for such treatment.
What Can a Combined Professional Protocol Look Like?
For one client, the focus may be on cavitation cleansing and APIS Acne-Stop care. For another, we combine HydroFacial’s water-vacuum cleansing, ultrasound, an individually selected APIS concentrate, a mask, and LED. For a third, the skin primarily needs restoration and calming. For a fourth, where active acne is almost gone, the main goal is improving scars and texture.
The correct combination depends on the skin, not the popularity of a particular treatment.
What About Home Care for Acne-Prone Skin?
The foundation of a home routine is gentle yet effective cleansing, a properly chosen product for problematic skin, adequate hydration, and daily UV protection. We don’t overload the skin with ten active ingredients at once. At Zoja Beauty, we connect salon treatments with individual advice regarding home APIS care.
What Do Not Recommend for Acne-Prone Skin?
Squeezing pimples, aggressive peels, strong alcohol-based products, too many acids at once, and constantly switching cosmetics can further irritate the skin. For highly inflammatory, painful, cystic, or rapidly worsening acne, a dermatological consultation is advisable. Cosmetic care can complement dermatological treatment but should not replace medical treatment for the condition.
How Many Treatments Are Needed?
With acne-prone skin, it’s unrealistic to expect a long-term problem to be solved with a single cleansing session. After an initial analysis, we may recommend a specific treatment or a series of treatments, during which we monitor the skin’s response and adjust the protocol as needed. Professional treatment is a process, not a competition in treatment intensity.

Frequently Asked Questions About Acne-Prone Skin
Which treatment is best for acne-prone skin?
There is no single best treatment for everyone. For comedonal and oily skin, the focus may be on cleansing and regulating sebum; for inflamed skin, on calming; and for post-acne scars, on regenerative procedures. That’s why a preliminary skin analysis is important.
Is HydroFacial suitable for acne?
It can be very useful for certain forms of impure, oily, and comedonal skin. For severely inflamed skin, the intensity and selection of functions must be adjusted, and aggressive treatment of active lesions should be avoided.
Can we perform RF microneedling on active acne?
RF microneedling is mainly suitable for certain consequences of acne, such as scars and uneven texture, when active inflammation is no longer present.
Is APIS Acne-Stop intended for oily skin?
Yes. The professional APIS Acne-Stop line is designed for oily, combination, and acne-prone skin and for professional protocols for cleansing and normalizing sebum.
Can we over-cleanse acne-prone skin?
Yes. Too frequent or overly aggressive cleansing can damage the protective barrier and cause irritation. The balance between cleansing, active treatment, hydration, and protection is important.
When is a dermatologist needed for acne?
For highly painful, deep, cystic, rapidly progressing, or very inflammatory acne, a consultation with a dermatologist is recommended.
